Our Story
A journey of Resilience, Community and Home on the shores of Saint Lucia
Where It All Began
More than 30 years ago, Majorie's began with nothing but determination, a quiet stretch of coastline, and a tiny shack built from galvanized sheets and handmade benches.
With limited resources but endless resilience, she carried supplies long distances, cooked over stones with local firewood, and welcomes anyone who wandered onto the beach.
“What truly makes Majorie's special, is Majorie herself; her warmth, her strength, and her unwavering spirit”
THE DREAM
How It All Began
More than thirty years ago, Cas en Bas looked very different than it does today.
There was no restaurant, no established destination, and certainly no roadmap for success. There was simply a beautiful stretch of coastline, a lot of hard work, and a woman determined to create something special.
In the early days, Marjorie carried supplies long distances, cooked over open fires using local wood and stones, and served meals from a humble structure built with galvanized sheets and handmade benches. Nothing came easy. Every day required creativity, persistence, and faith that people would keep coming back.
And they did.
Not because the food was fancy or the setting was luxurious. They came because they felt welcome. They felt at home. They felt like they had discovered a piece of Saint Lucia that was real.
What started as a small beachside operation slowly became something much bigger—a place where people gathered, shared stories, and created memories.
The dream was never to build a famous restaurant.
The dream was simply to create a place where people could enjoy good food, good company, and the beauty of Cas en Bas.
THE COMMUNITY
Everyone Has a Marjorie's Story
Over the years, Marjorie's became much more than a place to eat.
It became a place where people connected.
Locals stopped by after work. Fishermen came in from the sea. Families celebrated birthdays and special occasions. Friends gathered around bonfires. Visitors from around the world discovered Cas en Bas and returned year after year.
Some came for lunch and stayed all afternoon.
Others returned decades later with children and grandchildren, wanting to share a place that had become part of their own story.
Along the way, Marjorie's welcomed people from every walk of life—artists, musicians, business leaders, athletes, government officials, construction crews, tourists, and neighbors. Everyone was treated the same way: like family.
Many of the traditions people remember most weren't planned. They happened naturally.
The full moon gatherings.
The beach liming.
The spontaneous music.
The friendships formed between strangers who arrived from different corners of the world and left feeling connected.
Ask almost anyone who has spent time at Marjorie's and they'll have a story to tell.
That's what makes this place special.
THE LEGACY
A Story Still Being Written
The island has changed a lot over the last three decades.
Cas en Bas has changed too.
Through all of those changes, one thing has remained constant: the spirit of Marjorie's.
When the future of the original location became uncertain, the response from the community was overwhelming. People spoke up. Friends offered support. Longtime guests shared memories of what Marjorie's had meant to them over the years.
What became clear was something Marjorie had known all along.
This was never just a restaurant. It was a gathering place. A community. A tradition.
Today, Marjorie's continues in a new chapter overlooking the same beautiful waters that inspired the original dream. New guests arrive every day while familiar faces continue to return.
The mission remains simple:
Welcome people warmly. Serve authentic Saint Lucian food. Support local farmers, fishermen, artists, and musicians. Create a place where everyone feels at home.
The buildings may change. The menu may evolve. The generations may come and go.
But the heart of Marjorie's remains exactly where it has always been—with the people who gather here and the woman whose dream started it all.
